CHILAS: A police official was martyred on Sunday in an operation against terrorists, who torched girl’s schools in Gilgit Baltistan (GB) district Diamar.
An operation was conducted against the extremists who destroyed government schools of the valley.
In an exchange of fire between forces and terrorists, a police official was martyred, while a terrorist was killed and two others were taken into police custody.
According to the GB’s government spokesperson, the deceased terrorist was identified as Shafiq. Weapons, suicide jackets and a huge amount of other ammunition were also recovered from the terrorists, he added.
The operation is still underway and at least 31 suspects have been arrested so far. As soon as the operation started, the people who were in favour of terrorists attacked the police station and surround it.
After the exchange of fire, police became successful in dispersing the enraged extremists.
However, the extremists have blocked the roads which are turning the situation even worst.
On Thursday night, unknown assailants had blown up three government schools using explosives and set another nine on fire. Most of these schools were for girls only. No casualties were reported in the attacks that appeared to have been orchestrated by extremists opposed to women’s education.
A press release issued by the local administration stated that the assailants had fled the scene by the team security and law enforcement forces got there.
